Cal. 45 ACP. S# 9997. Bbl. 11". Consecutively numbered w/ previous lot. Classic Thompson SMG, US Model 1921, manufactured by Colt in Hartford, CT & marked Auto-Ordnance Corporation, in New York, NY. This gun is listed in the book "COLT THOMPSON SUBMACHINE GUN SERIAL NUMBERS & HISTORIES", Volume 1, on page 909, as being shipped to the Illinois Division of Highways on 2/14/31. It has a 29 rib finned barrel, terminated w/ Cutts compensator w/ diamond "Cutts" logo & patent dates. Traditional, vertical wood fore arm. Front blade sight integral w/ Cutts compensator & rear is adjustable Lyman graduated sight. Hardwood, rear shoulder stock w/ trapdoor buttplate. Slotted & knurled, top mounted cocking knob. Reapplied blue finish on exposed metal surfaces. Left side receiver markings are as follows: “MODEL OF 1921”, above the serial number. “THOMPSON SUBMACHINE GUN / CALIBRE 45 AUTOMATIC COLT CARTRIDGE / MANUFACTURED BY / COLT'S PATENT FIRE ARMS MFG. CO. / HARTFORD, CONN. U.S.A.". Right side markings include patent block below cocking knob & “AUTO-ORDANACE CORPORATION / NEW YORK, U.S.A." & barely visible "JHB" acceptance stamp for John H. Barrett, Colt's quality control inspector. Top of receiver marked w/ Thompson bullet trade mark logo, forward of rear sight. Trigger frame serial number matches receiver number. Left side trigger frame marked "FULL AUTO (2 lines) / SINGLE" while selector is marked "FIRE / SAFE". MAGS: 1 steel 20 rd. CONDITION: blued finish on trigger frame & barrel is complete & consistent w/ some thinning, primarily in areas of mechanical intervention & very gently on barrel toward muzzle end. Receiver has an almost purple hue to the finish color. Some light patina/ staining,on steel butt plate. Most markings are easy to read, remaining sharp & clear while "JHB" proof mark is barely visible. Barrel marked w/ British "NITRO PROOF" & crown at 12 o'clock forward of receiver. Wood furniture is dark and matches well, having a few period typical scratches & depressions. Shoulder stock has small anchor mark, as used by Remington & fits very tightly on trigger frame. Bright bore w/ strong rifling. Fire control mechanism appears to function smoothly & correctly when cycled by hand.
